Epson seem to release a new multifunction printer every week and the one for the week is the Stylus SX218. It’s a compact multifunction printer that offers value for money printing as well as scanning and copying. Printers in this price bracket useful cost a fortune in terms of printer cartridges but the Epson SX218 ink cartridges are different they don’t actually cost that much, ok they not super cheap but you can pickup a full set of genuine Epson ink cartridges for under £30. The SX218 has a number of features that enable PC-free print photos directly from PictBridge or from a memory card. The memory card reader supports a number of formats including Compact Flash, SD and Memory Stick Pro to name a few. Another feature that works without the need for a PC is the copier and although it’s a convenient feature and the output quality is good the speed is not so impressive. Epson claim the Stylus SX218 is capable of producing 34ppm but this is far from realistic as the real figure is more like 4ppm which is quiet slow even for an entry level inkjet printer. Apart from this the Stylus SX218 is a solid multifunction printer that will suit a lot of people requirements.
